Episode 1Hanging by a thread. This episode pretty much feels more like a transitional prologue than anything here as Yumeko is engaged in another gambling game against one of Kirari's subordinates, and then it switches over to the student council as Kirari herself steps down as the president, and brings in even more students to try and sent Yumeko packing. That match against Erimi pretty much reminded me how much I love Yumeko as once again, just when the opponent had rigged the game in their favor, Yumeko's heightened sense of observation is able to see through that.
In this case, the game is to cut strings and whoever loses their finger from the guillotine is the loser. But for Erimi, the blade won't cut her's off. Quite a reckless bet that was, but with Midari involved, the masochist doesn't mind. Not the greatest of episodes here, but certainly this is what it needed to do in order to get back in the thick of things seeing that the first season's ending is anime-original and made in a way in that it doesn't affect the story moving forward given the end result. Episode 2Failing to make the cut.So the student council is up for grabs with this casino battle royale, which is what led to this game that started in the last episode. So the game continues as Erimi lost her cool after rigging the trap, and then comes the big moment when Midari cut the last two strings that got her DQ'd, and it turns out the trap was rigged all along so that no fingers get chopped off.
Once again, Yumeko's mind games worked like a charm as Erimi withdrew her finger believing that the trap was no longer rigged, and thus Yumeko wins. Pretty intense that was, though I would have rather seen the whole match this episode and the lead-in the last time around. Episode 3Her life is at stake.Next up, Yumeko is up against the distant cousins Miri and Miyo, and just when it looked like another routine game for her with Ryota joining the cause, it turns out that Miyo had poisoned Yumeko before entering the room, which is how they beat Yuriko as by doing that, they can get their opponent to surrender in order to get the antidote. Now, it's up to Mary and Ryota to win it from those girls as Mary was forced into a bet by Ririka before she unmasks her.
The stakes are higher than they have ever been seeing that Yumeko's life is hanging in the balance whereas previously, the worst that could happen was her being expelled from school. Episode 4Everyday she's shufflin'.Mary really saved the day there as her observational prowess was on-par with Yumeko's as she knew that Ruka was shuffling the cards in a specific manner, which was intentional to give Mary and Ryota a chance seeing that the sisters had too much of an advantage. Once Mary figured it out, it was all over. While she won the day, she will become an opponent for Yumeko at the end as Mary wants that presidency for herself seeing that Yumeko is just way too reckless. Once again, it was great to see that Yumeko's team exploited an anomaly to win.
Episode 5Never underestimate Hollywood. And it continues where this season Yumeko is gambling with a partner. This time, it is Yumemi who Yumeko is partnering up with as she's out to beat the actress Natari, who has made quite a big name for herself in Hollywood. So it's a reality show where the game is a face-off of three different contests with the audience deciding who wins.
First off is a singing contest and while Yumemi and Yumeko both brought the house down with their idol gig, Natari's opera-style voice is one to be reckoned with. So now, the two are in a hole as the drama just keeps building. I wonder what those two are going to do now as they can't afford to slip up. Episode 6The stars are aligned in her favor. As it turns out, Natari had counter-bribed to vote for her in this round, so the next round is to eat three macarons and guess which one is the spicy one.
Natari didn't fall for Yumemi's bluff when she injured her finger to get her to guess wrong, but Yumeko also guessed right based on the number of chews. And then comes the deciding game where the players place cards and may lie about it, and while Yumeko and Yumemi initially thought about working together, Yumeko decided not to, and that was a wise move seeing that Natari picked up on it. And after they passed, Natari was left with the hand that ended up going over to give the win to Yumeko and Yumemi.
Kakegurui Season 2 Episode 12
Quite another well-played gambling match there going to show that Yumeko is quite observant, which was important seeing that Yumemi wasn't exactly on the top of her game, but it did get her the attention she wanted seeing that she hopes to make it to Hollywood someday. Episode 7Remember to pay your taxes. The next game has Yumeko playing against Itsuki and Kaede again, as well as Miroslava and Ibara where each person has to decide how much to keep and how much to put in the tax collection where those who don't pay their taxes are at risk of being eliminated from the game. The first round indicates that there's a traitor among them, but then the second round suggests two traitors are at work after Yumeko's idea of contributing the number written on their paper. And then Kaede points to Yumeko being one of them. Lots of drama going on here as Yumeko definitely lives for this. Episode 8Winning is everything.Yumeko was accused of being the traitor, but nothing came out of it. As it turns out, the traitors were Miroslava and Itsuki as they were working together by distributing notes in the deposit room, and thanks to Kaede's logical thinking, he knew that Miroslava was the one that needed to be eliminated.

So in the end, Itsuki wins, but her votes are taken by Terano as she made a third party bet with her regarding whether Kaede would win or lose, and with Terano betting that he would lose that she wins all of Itsuki's votes. Which is fine by Itsuki as she was never interested in becoming student council president, and all she cared about was experiencing the thrill of winning.
That was well-played once again going to show that Kaede is no dummy, at leas when he's thinking with a cool head unlike during his match with Yumeko. Episode 9It's gambling, not rocket science.Onto the next duel where Yumeko is gunning for Kirari, but before that she has to deal with her right hand man Sayaka. Instead of votes at stake, Yumeko is wagering her ability to gamble while Sayaka's putting her friendship with Kirari at on the line. And to up the ante, the loser must jump off the tower, thus likely killing them. So it begins with Yumeko opening a door that is blocked, then Sayaka goes to the third floor, and then Yumeko makes a bold move opening an external wall where things end with a cliffhanger. Seeing that this is a school for the filthy rich that it figures that there would be something like this here. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what the solution is as while Sayaka thinks she has everything figured out, it's not always the right way.
Episode 10The right answer is not always the best answer. While Yumeko is no match for Sayaka in academics, she takes a look at things from a different perspective as instead of solving what's ahead, she looks at the big picture. It turns out that opening one of the exterior walls confirms that the tower is rotating, so while Sayaka was first to the bottom, knowing where the express to the top is Yumeko needs only one turn to get to the top and win.
And while Sayaka was bracing herself for the end of her life, it turns out she fell out the door leading to the safety mat. Once again, Yumeko goes to show why she's such a great critical thinker, a skill that Sayaka lacks as she went the brute force route instead of looking for shortcuts. Episode 11Only one stands to benefit. So just like the first season, it ends with an anime-original gamble as it's centered around Rei, who is not in the manga.
She organizes an auction where those who bid for votes must pay up, win or lose. Of course, it's a scam auction all around as Mary finds out that Rei herself is participating. And Yumeko goes one step further by outing her as the sponsor seeing that there are more participants than those inside the room. Rei almost pulled off this scam of a scheme herself, but in the end she just couldn't outwit Yumeko, and now to end this a high-stakes gamble as Yumeko is putting 3 billion yen on the line for this.
Episode 12 (Finale)Filling in the void.Rei thought she had it all figured out with this auction, but as always Yumeko always finds a way to beat this rigged auction with her rapid-fire 101-vote bids, which sent a message to all the bidders to stop bidding against each other. Once that happens, all bids are for one vote, and Rei is out. And then comes a simple coin toss to decide Rei's fate, and of course, Yumeko wins that bet and thus, Rei's identity has been rewritten. Poor Rei had it rough being nothing but a tool, but all she needed to do was get schooled by Yumeko and she's now living an honest life as a girl rather than putting on that tomboy act. So like the first season, it ends with an anime-original story as everything she won in that bet, she squandered it away.
Kakegurui Season 2 Episode 13
The student council election battle royale is still going on, so hopefully another season is coming as it continues to be a great drama.Overall, this season pretty much has all the same strengths and weaknesses of the first season. The characters are great, the drama is incredible, and the animation is top-notch, while on the flipside the storywriting could have been better and the pacing was too slow as it felt that not much has happened in the overall scheme of things, as well as the questionable use of an anime-original ending. In any case, it continues to be a greatly enjoyable show that I really got into.MAL Rating: .
