Microsoft Project New Task Shortcut
Djjjlawson,Here are a few starter suggestions.First, if you are using Project 2010 or later, you can use the Task Inspector which is selected under Task/Task group/Inspect icon. The inspector will appear on the left side of the display and will show what impacts the selected task.Second, you could set up a split screen display and show the Relationship Diagram in the lower pane. That will show you all predecessors and successors for the selected task. Not quite as useful as a full network diagram but it's a starting point. Thereare some third party PERT chart applications that work with Project.

One that comes to mind is made by Criticaltools.com. This is not an endorsement of any of their products but rather a starting point.Third, go to Jack Dahlgren's website at: and try his Trace macro.Hope this helps.John.
Djjjlawson -In addition to the sage reply from John, if you are using Microsoft Project 2013, you can use the new Task Path feature. Click the Format tab to display the Format ribbon. In the Bar Styles section of the ribbon, click the Task Path pick list button. You will see that you can view two types of predecessors and two types of successors. Be forewarned, however, that the Task Path feature conflicts with the display of the Critical Path in the Gantt Chart view. If you have the Critical Path displayed, deselectit temporarily while using the Task Path feature, then reapply the Critical Path again.
Hope this helps. Howard MVP.
There is really no shortcut or substitute for inspecting the predecessors and successors of every single task and confirming that they are correct, or otherwise correcting them, and also finding predecessors and/or successors which have been missed. Predecessors/successorswhich have been missed for a particular task may be either some other task that is already in the list somewhere or it may be a task which has not yet been thought of and put on the list. What I do, and this may seem tedious, is split the screen and show predecessors and successors side by side. Then, double click on each predecessor in the table in the lower pane to get its task information and check its finish date, so that I can find outwhich of several predecessors is the one which finishes latest (assuming FS). Then work back from there in the same manner.
